Carlos Limas (b.1970, Matamoros, Tamailipas, Mexico) completed his master’s in fine arts at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on December 2019. He also has a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from the Instituto Profesional de Arte y Diseño in Monterrey, México, and a second bachelor’s degree in Studio Art by l’Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles in Belgium. He completed a residency in conceptual art at the Accademia di Brera in Milan, Italy, with Arte Povera artist Luciano Fabro and Diego Esposito. As a multidisciplinary artist his work is represented in painting, video, installation, photography, and design. Carlos Limas has exhibited in group and solo art exhibitions in México, Belgium, the US, Slovakia, Italy, France, China, and Bolivia.He has served as director of the School of Art TEP from CONARTE in Monterrey, creating multiple projects for the art community like Artist Talk's, International Residencies programs, an Electronic Biennale and many other experimental workshops in video, photography and audio.
During his time at the UTRGV he worked as a teacher assistant for the Digital Photography class. He also was Chief Coordinator of Media and Graphic Design for the UTRGV Center for Latin American Arts under the supervision of Katherine Moore McAllen, Ph.D., covering events in México, Perú and the United States. In 2018, he served as the official photographer of the FOLD Art, Practice and Metaphor project presented by Professor Raheleh T. Filsoofi in three venues at UTRGV and the International Museum of Art and Science in McAllen, Texas. From 2016 to 2019, he was the gallery assistant of the UTRGV permanent collection department under the supervision of Professor Maria Elena Macias. Other activities include English teacher volunteer in the Changhua District in Taiwan, China in the summer of 2017. He currently leaves and works in the Rio Grande Valley.
